Groundskeeper-Willy

The Blog of a Groundskeeper-Willy who is employed in a state high school in NSW. I like my job but can't live on the money $412.50 per week. {Now $428.56!} {Now $436.99!} {Now $455.27!}To live I will have to return to my trade so I have started looking, but so that my experiences in the education system are not consigned to the rubbish bin of posterity I am going to record them here.

Yer used Me Skinner, Yer used Me!

He's done it again

as mentioned previously his command of the English language is less than perfect.

The builders were taking out partitions in the old buildings so that the walkway for the new building could be connected, now Skinner wanted to save the varnished plywood wall panels but does he tell the builders that we want to keep the varnished plywood wall panels

NO he tells then that "we want all the timber" that's it everything the door frames the studs the noggins etc what he meant to say was "we want the varnished plywood wall panels"

As a consequence the builders left the lot! Which Willy had to clean up, now Skinner gets very upset that the builders cannot read minds. I don't mind working but I object to being made look a fool by someone who is not willing to admit that they have made a mistake.
He is a maths teacher after all.

The human story does not always unfold like a mathematical calculation on the principle that two and two make four. Sometimes in life they make five or minus three; and sometimes the blackboard topples down in the middle of the sum and leaves the class in disorder and the pedagogue with a black eye.

Walking on water & turning water into wine

Its been a hectic few days at the Skool,

I can now report that I have achieved the impossible.

Today carpet was laid in the English Staffroom

Of course it did not go according to plan, the carpet layers were meant to arrive at 10.00am they arrived at 1.45pm so the job was not finished until 6.30pm. Now gentle reader Willy is supposed to finish at 3.30pm and he is not paid overtime but I stayed because there was no one else to put on the alarms and lock up!

Also today the bulldozer came to move the mounds it will take him 3 days, whilst he was moving the mounds he was attacked by the "Special" people who live in a house adjacent to the Skool. They threw a Christmas tree at him, empty beer bottles and some of their verandah supports!
They set up a terrific wail when he told them if they continued in this fashion he would contact the police.

They are part of the community but cause the community some trouble. Being institutionalized we didn't see them, now having been placed within the community I wonder if the 'Cost savings' associated with closing the institutions are being eroded with the funds being diverted from Policing and Social Services to administer to these people.

Besides I dislike picking up all their rubbish that they throw over the fence. I have learnt to dodge the beer bottles.

Having now achieved miracles it's back to doing the impossible all for $412.50 per week the NSW Public gets it's pound of flesh out of me!

Cultural cruelty?

Just have to post this,

Today the Uniform shop was open and the parents were coming to purchase Uniform.
The shop is the ONLY place in Sydney where you can get Uniform for this Skool I think its called an monopoly.

Anyway only Horst was in today as Clive had a crook leg and as Horst and I passed the Uniform shop one of the Asian Parents standing in the line moved out of the line and deliberately aimed a kick at Horst! Luckily it didn't connect.

Now Horst was not sniffing around them he was following me, the Woman had to take 3 steps out of the line to try and kick him!

The question is why?

Did she want to beat up on something smaller than her?

Tomorrow I will take Clive, he won't stand for any of that shit

They can't sack me, Slaves have to be sold!

Back in the saddle again

Well back at Skool, I went looking for the graffiti and could not find it!
Hmm it must have been removed.

On Tuesday Beatrix Potter came {It's not his real name} from the graffiti Removal Company, we walked around the whole Skool but could not find it, He came during the holidays but the builders would not let him in without me being there.

From the conversation I had with the woman on the telephone you would have thought tha whole walls were covered with spray paint. {And don't try to tell me it's art} I cannot recall any of that spray can graffiti here before 1980 it was a film called "Beat Street" that started it all off, another American product that we did not ask for.

Later the security Guard came back and showed me where the graffiti was.

Guard; "Well here it is, its not much"

Willy; "I'll say its not much!" looking at size of graffiti

Guard; "Yeah well it's offensive to someone, Ya know I spent 22 years in the Army and I was taught to Kill em not love em"

Willy; "oh?" wonders what he's going on about

Guard; "Ruination of the country, this Multiculturalism"

The graffiti was in lead pencil the letters were 1/2in high and the whole thing was two sentences one above the other 12 and 8 inches long

DUNE COONS ARE SO
UGLEE AND SO STOOPID

Guard; "Ya know it's probably true!" looking at the graffiti

Willy; "For some people yes" {least this is taken out of context, I mean those who write those things}

Guard; "Bloody country is so full of f***ing do gooders"

What a sad burnt out old man

Later Principal Skinner contacts Willy

Skinner; "Willy I want you to organize to have carpet laid in the English staffroom by the end of the week"

Willy; {thinks and you want me to walk on water and to turn water into wine} "I will see what I can do but don't hold your breath"

Skinner; not listening "It was to be done so the English department can organize it's staffroom before the 1st day"

Here we have lack of organization on my part, means supreme effort on your part

Steps involved in carpet laying
  1. get three quotes {getting them to come and quote is hard enough but 3! I have to get three quotes for work that will cost over $1000.00 { I have a few tradesmen who give quotes for $990.00 inc GST none of them lay carpets}
  2. Meet with the carpet people and explain what is required 3 times
  3. Try and get the successful candidate to fast track the laying {not a snowballs chance in hell}
  4. Listens to Skinners put downs when it is ultimately unsuccessful.

Listen up, Willy to world if you wanted it done you should have started sooner!

Vandalized

Oh shit, I just got a call from PMS the maintenance contractors for the Skool.
School Security has rang them and the Skool has been vandalized with graffiti.

I told the woman I am on holiday and will be back in two weeks!

The Government does not pay me to go in on my own time I can't afford the fuel and I don't get paid until the 13th of January then I get my Holiday pay 17.5 %

The low pay with the amount of specialist work I have to do is the main reason that I have to return to my trade. A good GA can save the Education Department thousands but we {I} am not appreciated the Teachers treat us like idiots with hammers.

The PMS need me to sign the job sheet so they will get paid!

I think the builders who are working on the new building must have left the gate open, people live in their own little worlds.
